Methodology
KidRecall publishes US recalls of baby and kids' products from two official sources. It does not cover EU, UK, or FDA recall lists.
Sources
Product recalls come from the CPSC Recalls API, filtered on this server to kids' products. Child car seat recalls come from NHTSA's bulk file of recalls since 2010, record type C. A per-campaign lookup fills in the notice text. NHTSA's make-and-model lookup does not return car seats, so KidRecall does not use it.
Dates
Dates are stored as a calendar day, YYYY-MM-DD. CPSC sends a timestamp with no time zone, and only the date portion is kept. NHTSA's campaign lookup writes dates day-first (DD/MM/YYYY). The bulk file writes the same day as YYYYMMDD. KidRecall never shifts a recall date through a time zone.
What gets a page
A CPSC notice is kept when the title, description, or product type matches a kids' product word, such as crib, stroller, infant, or toy. Words that often show up on other products, such as "child" alone, are held for review and are not published. Child-resistant packaging is skipped unless the notice is also clearly a kids' product. Every NHTSA type C campaign is published as a car seat recall.
High and Medium
Those labels are KidRecall's, based on the hazard wording (for example death, choking, entrapment, or a serious injury). They are not a government grade. Child car seat campaigns are labeled High.
Matches
Search ignores spaces and capitalization, so "snug ride" finds "SnugRide". An alert email calls a notice a possible match and asks you to check the model number against the official notice. KidRecall does not tell you a product is fine to keep using.
